About Us
Dr. David Scasta, of Independent Psychiatric Services, is a forensic psychiatrist who provides evaluations which entail psychiatric issues in civil litigation, such as workers’ compensation injuries, personal injuries, need for treatment, and no-fault automobile claims. He is a board-certified psychiatrist with many years of experience in providing expert opinion and treatment recommendations for injured litigants. Dr. Scasta is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and for many years taught psychiatry as a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Temple University Medical School. He received his BA degree in Psychology through the Honors Program from Baylor University and his MD degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He did his psychiatric residency at Temple University Medical School. He has one year of graduate work in Psychology at Baylor University, focused on personality assessment, and additional training in business and experimental statistical design.
Dr. Scasta’s evaluations are comprehensive and detailed and depend upon a thorough review of all available records. He carefully assesses all causes of psychiatric diagnoses, both claim related and not. As a result, his evaluations are particularly valuable to defendants and respondents since non-claim related causes are mitigating (and potentially absolving) factors for claims by plaintiffs and petitioners. Because he is familiar to many of the judges in New Jersey, he makes a concerted effort to defend his reputation as competent, unbiased, and reasonable, providing conclusions that his psychiatric colleagues will view as professional and sustainable. His reports are impartial and may not benefit his clients. His reports are always framed by the legal questions that the judge or other trier of fact must decide with the help of expert testimony.
